August 31st Agenda

Objective: To identify archetypes in modern society and to develop on the importance of archetypal ideas in literature.

-Complete flood myths in class (essays are homework if you didn't get to them)

-Review explanations for parallelism in mythology

-Identify archetypes in the flood myths; expand on explanations

-Learn about Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey" archetypal theory; apply to modern day movies and books

-Begin reading the early life of Theseus from the Heroes Novels

Objective: To learn about archetypal theory and begin using that theory in comparing flood myths.

Grammar: Identify dependent and independent clauses.

Review: What is parallelism? What are the reasons for parallelism in literature?

Guided Practice: Draw images and write out words using word association.

  • Read "Beauty and Beast" summaries and identify parallelism

-Begin daily grammar assignment. Monday: identify parts of speech. Review as a class

-Go over correct world wealth and population
-100 Earth Village Project: divide class into a percentage of "world" students and then divide wealth (free homework passes)

-Identify continents and go over expected reading syllabus
-Discuss: What does a society need to survive? To thrive?

-Student short essay: What are my strengths and weaknesses in writing?
-Student project: Complete a "Book Cover" of your life, to be used in portfolio

HOMEWORK:
-Purchase a three-ring binder and tab dividers
-Get parent letter signed
-Complete essay and project if not completed in class
