Aristotle's Theory of Tragedy

As Aristotle said, a tragedy needs certain things....

  • A series of unrelated events + a tragic flaw = tragedy
  • A series of unrelated events = coincidence
  • A tragic flaw = hubris = pride

Other things that make a good tragedy:
  • Everything happens in one day
  • The main character is basically good
  • The main character is upper class
