MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 18
-Objective: Go over writing exam information and begin pre-writing practices.
-Read a packet of information on the writing exam
-Go over grading scale, hints, and tips
-Go over state rubric and simplified rubric
-Read two different sample prompts
-Practice two different methods of pre-writing
-HOMEWORK: Complete pre-writing practice
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19
-Objective: To discuss the differences between oral and written literature and to apply that knowledge and analyze the content of West African literature (applicable objective throughout week).
-Read the Mali epic of Sundiata
-HOMEWORK: Complete worksheet on Sundiata
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20
-Review the meaning of oral literature
-Read two dilemma tales and discuss their nature as oral literature
-Go over the definitions of static and dynamic
-Learn about the trickster arcehtype
-Read the story of the origination of Anansi
-Read proverbs; each student illustrates a different proverb
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21
-Review oral and written traditions
-Learn about Chinua Achebe
-Learn about colonization of West Africa
-Read "Dead Men's Path"; identify reflections of oral tradition and bias
-Read "Half a Day"; identify symbols and meaning
-HOMEWORK: Complete worksheet, study for test
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22
-TEST ON EGYPTIAN AND WEST AFRICAN LITERATURE
-When test is complete, use extra time to complete worksheets on modern African literature
